The Boyd Families of Illinois
 | 1. Wm. Boyd b. circa 1747 m. in Ireland, Margaret Lyons b. 1754. They lived in Ireland for a
while, then came to America with some of their children, arriving at Charleston, South Carolina.
Moved to the Abbeville District, then to Laurens District, and finally after some time, 2 daughters
and 3 sons came to Illinois about 1821-1825. They were Samuel, Wm., Jane and Margaret.

South Carolina b. unknown d. 1832. Came to Illinois about 1825 and located in section 17,
Twp 4 R 5, where he lived until his decease. Married (2)Margaret Skelly b. Chester district,
South Carolina 5/14/1802. (Daughter of Wm. Skelly b. South Carolina d. 1823 and wife Jane
Blackstock d. Illinois 7/12/1849. She was a native of South Carolina).

Sparta, Illinois. m. (2) 6/15/1871, Jane's sister, Mary E. Gibson b. 6/28/1833 d.
1/10/1913. They had a son b. and d. 1872 buried in Caledonia Cemetery. (Jane and Mary
were daughters of Robert and Mary Gibson). (Mary E.Gibson Boyd m. (2) 3/22/1881 in
Randolph County, Ill., John Bickett b. 3/28/1836 Ayrshire, Scotland, d. 3/12/1900. This
was his third wife. Mary E. is buried in Caledonia Cemetery beside her infant son, Boyd).

 | 4. Robert Boyd b. 11/7/1843. In December 1863, when the Civil War was raging, he
enlisted in Co. K 5th Illinois Cavalry, Union Army, and he joined his regiment at
Vicksburg, fought under General Custer at the Yazoo River, then was stationed at
Vicksburg until the following summer. Then with his regiment went to Tennessee, and
engaged in fighting General Forrest, and routing him, went to Memphis, then into Texas
where they were detailed to skirmish. He received his honorable discharge in the fall of
1865 and during his service was never wounded or taken prisoner. He d. 1/5/1927 Sparta,
lIlinois m. after discharge from service 2/8/1866 Marion Bickett B. Randolph County,
Illinois 9/4/1845 d. 11/21/1890 Sparta, Illinois. Both buried Caledonia Cemetery in
Sparta (she was a daughter of John Bickett). He a member of the U. P. church and a
Grand Army of the Republic with his membership in the Post at Coulterville, Illinois. Also
a member of the Prohibition Party.
