My Baseball Years 1968-69
 |
Baseball was the number one topic in the Boyd family. Here are a
couple of pictures of me playing for a couple of different teams in Independence,
Missouri. I played first base and batted and threw right-handed. As you can see, sideburns
were in. The picture on the left was taken when I was in the best shape of my life. I had
just lost about 40 pounds to get down to 175. These were greats times for me. |

Barter Island, Alaska 1977-79
 |
On October of 1977 I was transferred from the National Weather Service Office
in Memphis, Tennessee to my new duty station in Barter Island, Alaska. It is located off
the North Slope of Alaska on the Buefort Sea, just a few miles west of the Canadian
border. I spent about a year and a half here before being transferred back to the lower 48
to Centreville, Alabama. On the Island which was a DEW Line site was an Eskimo villiage of
about a hundred or so. |
