Robert Boyd, 1st Lord Boyd and Mariota Maxwell Family

Robert Boyd, 1st Lord Boyd born Scotland, died 1482. Was created a power of Parliament with the title of Lord Boyd prior to 13 Jul 1459 by King James II and was one of the commissioners sent to prolong the truce with England, which they continued for nine years. Granted in 1468 full power to visit the courts of England, Spain, France, Denmark, Burgundy, Belgium, Savoy and others to find a wife for King James III. A marriage treaty was concluded with King Christian I of Denmark, who agreed to give his daughter to James the III. Along with her the Islands of Orkneys and Shetland presented as dowry. Was accused of treason and fled to England under sentence of death. He married;

Mariota Maxwell daughter of Sir Robert Maxwell. Children were;

bullet.gif (1254 bytes) i. Thomas Boyd, Earl of Aaron. Married Princess Mary Stuart daughter of King James Stuart II. She married second James Hamilton. They had two children: 

bullet James Boyd born 1 Jan 1468 Sterling, Scotland
bullet  Grizel Boyd 31 Dec 1468 Sterling, Scotland.

bullet.gif (1254 bytes) iii. Archibald Boyd had 3 daughters unknown, Elizabeth and Margaret.

bullet.gif (1254 bytes) iv. Elizabeth Boyd. Married Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Angus. When Princess Mary and Thomas Boyd fled to Denmark together, Elizabeth and Archibald kept their children James and Grizel.

bullet.gif (1254 bytes) v. Annabella Boyd. Was forced to marry Sir John Gordon of Lochinvar by her father because she became pregnant by a commoner named Patrick Fullerton. She had an illegitimate son by Patrick and named him Pate
